GILBERT ALAN GACULA

March 12, 1972 to January 30, 2014

IN LOVING MEMORY

Gil was born in  Hawai’i on March 12, 1972 to Alfredo and Teresita (Labrador) Gacula and raised in Pa’auilo, Hawai’i. He graduated from Honoka’a High School in 1992 and proudly served in the Hawai’i Army National Guard. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Hawai’i at Manoa in 1996 then moved to Washington State in 1997. In 1998 he married his high school sweetheart, Darleen Pajo, and together they created a life together with four children in Snohomish, WA. He worked for eight years at United Technologies Corporation (Landing Gear Division) and prior to that, eight years with the Boeing Company as an aerospace engineer.

Gil was intelligent, compassionate, creative and hardworking. He was talented and excelled at whatever he did. He loved his family and was very dedicated to them. He was humble and a genuine leader amongst his peers. He enjoyed woodworking, diving and had a deep passion for spearfishing. He was the owner of Spear Diver, a speargun company, where he designed, manufactured and sold spearguns. He was an innovator in the speargun business and had many customers, followers and friends. He gravitated towards the water and when he vacationed in Hawaii with his family he always made time to go spearfishing off of Puako on the Big Island. Gil was one of a kind and loved and respected by all.

Gil is survived by his wife of 15 years Darleen and four children, Timothy (11 years), Joseph (9 years), Isabel (5 years), and Bruce (4 months); parents Alfredo and Teresita Gacula of Mill Creek; brother Glen of Snohomish; sister Marissa (Jesse) Rowell and their daughter Juniper of Bothell; father and mother-in-law Melvin (Leonora) Tsubota of Honokaa, HI; sister-in-laws Joycelyn (Roland) Matias of Honokaa, HI, Lorna Lorenzo of Kamuela, HI, along with his extended family.
